Nara

Wednesday 28th August 2019, Nara.
The journey continues on to Tokyo.
The next week is more leisurely as the distances are smaller with frequent sightseeing days as there is so much to visit around here.
Spent the morning in Osaka and the afternoon cycling to Nara, the original capital of Japan. Hadn’t expected a very steep 400 metres of climb en route though.

A Buddhist temple but with some artwork more reminiscent of Hindu temples than the normal Buddhist detachment and serenity.

The Buddha statues here were created from the ashes of hundreds of thousands of the deceased.

One of the assistants. She became very serious when having her photo taken. Love the headdress.
