Wednesday 20th March, 2019.
After a bumpy start I am warming to Perth. It’s a mixture of an English city with Australian geography and climate with similarities to US cities which were being developed about the same time.
The Anglican and Catholic cathedrals are the reverse of my experience in Europe. The Catholic one, visited yesterday was light and open. The Anglican one today was dark but with some striking modern stained glass.
Even a reconstructed mediaeval street!
Aborigine art in the gallery which was open today had a simplicity which was forceful and attractive.
In the afternoon a 64km ride to Fremantle with a visit to the prison that reminded me of the workhouse at Southwell.
Enough sightseeing, back on the road tomorrow.
